Activity 2: The Seven Sisters

Some people like to wonder what is Matariki. Well Matariki is about family.  (when celebrate the past). Matariki is also celebrated on the tenth of June . When someone passes away matariki is probably the best time to celebrate the past with the loved ones that left . So you could make their favourite food for dinner . The second meaning for Matariki is when you celebrate the seven sisters Waiti, Waita, Wapuna-A-Rangi, Tupu-A-Nuku, Tupu-A-Rangi, Uru-A-Rangi, and the mother Matariki.Image result for seven sisters matariki

  1. Hi Lydia,

It's Leslie here, a member of the Summer Learning Journey team.

Aren't these stars beautiful in the night sky? I live in Canada in the northern hemisphere but we can also see the Seven Sisters in our sky.

Are you allowed to stay up late some times to look at the night sky? Do you have a favourite constellation? Mine is The Big Dipper which is above our house every night when I take our dog, Spirit, out for her last walk. I don't think the Dipper is one that you get to see in your part of the world.

Unfortunately, Lydia, I don't think you've understood this particular activity in the Summer Learning Journey program. For this activity you were to tell the story of The Seven Stars of Matariki, in your own words. You weren't asked to talk about Matariki, as a time of year.

Did you watch the video of the author reading the book, The Seven Stars of Matarki? Perhaps you could give this a try and do the activity again. It's a lovely story.

I hope you're happy to be back at school this term and that you're happy in your class.

I'll continue to enjoy reading your blog!

    Cheers,

    Leslie
